Even given its longevity, it can't be said that The Western News has been Libby's sole newspaper all these years. Before the days of Radio, then TV, then the Internet, newspapers were the average person's only lifeline to the outside world. Hence, even the smallest of towns spawned multiple newspapers through the years.
Way back when there was The Libby Montanian, then The Weekly Libby Montanian, while today there seems to be the Kootenai Valley Record and a contemporary version of The Montanian, ostensibly just south of The Western News. Though there is mention of the latter two online, I can't prove they actually exist. In any event, The Western News soldiers on from its unassuming single storey building on Libby's California Avenue. It has an online edition, as well. The paper publishes twice a week, Wednesday and Friday, with copies available locally by Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
The paper's longevity has gotten it some small notoriety, as Wiki even has a
small article on the paper.
