This large garden is located behind the Memorial de Caen museum in Caen, France. The garden is composed of two parts, the first part being the Terrace, located directly behind the museum. It is an austere structure symbolizing the tension of war. Glass steles record the names of the Canadian units which fought in the Battle of Normandy. Across a small valley is the second part which is a spot called the Grove. There the names of the 122 Normandy communes liberated by Canadian soldiers in 1944 are listed. A large black granite slab has lying in the grove has the words NULLA DIES UMQUAM MEMORI VOS EXIMET AEVO which translates to No day will ever erase you from the memory of time.
The monuments were placed by the Canadian Battle of Normandy Foundation. This is one of three gardens dedicated to the liberation of France, the others being the United Kingdom and United States.
