A very popular lake with many privately owned homes surrounding the lake.

Lake Cochrane is a small natural lake located in the eastern reaches of the Coteau des Prairie. The lake is a popular destination for various recreational activities and has one of the more developed shorelines in northeast South Dakota.
Nearly the entire shoreline is surrounded by cabins and homes with the exception of state-owned lands within the state park and lake access area.
Currently, Lake Cochrane is primarily managed as a panfish [i.e., black crappie, sunfish (bluegill, green sunfish, and sunfish hybrids), and yellow perch], largemouth bass and walleye fishery.
