Mahwatise Wahoney was born in Indiana in 1801, just a couple of years after George Washington died. She was of the Delaware tribe. Her FindAGrave entry calls her Mah Wa Tise and Grandma Wahoney. She died just 5 years before World War I started.
She would have been in her sixties when the US Civil War started. She was probably not one of the native Americans who had to walk the infamous Trail Of Tears because the Delaware had been cooperating with the US government policies (for what they were worth) and moved west from their homes to Oklahoma without force.
