With only a quick glance this church could be mistaken for one built expressly for very short Catholics.

Like another church in Troy, Immaculate Conception has a stand alone bell tower, built completely of wood. It's main structure consists of four 6X6 timbers which rise from a concrete pad and extend to the pyramidal roof. The tower is braced with cross pieces at two levels, the upper one also serving as the platform for the No. 34 bell. The roof is clad in wood shingles or shakes. The fact that a rope remains attached to the yoke wheel leads us to believe that the bell is still used as the call to mass. Bell and yoke appear to be made of iron.

Sunk into the ground with earth bermed up around it, the church shows very little of its side walls. Adding to the illusion of lack of height is the roof, which is very low, with mansard style eaves and a flat top. This is probably a very energy efficient building.

Actually outside the town of Troy proper, the church stands along the east side of Highway 2 nearly a mile north of downtown Troy. Were it not for the church's sign near the highway and the wooden bell tower on the lawn, few people would correctly guess this to be a church.
