He was a Lance Corporal with the 34th Australian Infantry Battalion Australian Army. His grave is in the churchyard of St. Stephens Church in Scone.

His headstone reflects Australia's staunch support for Great Britain during the war despite being a nation in its own right since 1901. The lowest section of the headstone states:

We should not weep for such as he will live in Britain's memory.
