Capertee dates from the time of the establishment of the railway station in 1882. It is in an area of great natural beauty being surrounded by National Parks. At an elevation of 800 metres it has brisk winters. The chimney has two hearths so I surmise that one would have served the kitchen, the other would have warmed the lounge.
