The bronze statues depict two giant golden eagles at rest on either side of the flag post. When we visited San Miguel, the usual giant Mexican flag was absent.

The flag of Mexico is a vertical tricolor of green, white and red with the National Coat of Arms centered on the white band. The Mexican coat of arms depicts an eagle, holding a serpent in its talon. It recalls the legend of an eagle sitting on a cactus that signaled to the Aztecs where to found their city, Tenochtitlan (Mexico City). (visit link)
