A life size marble bust of the architect of the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi, Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda, was sculpted by Antonio Ugo. The engineer and architect is depicted from the neck up with an unfinished upper torso. He is looking slightly up and to his left. The bust rests on a 6' high tapering marble base with an Ionic capital.
The front of the base is inscribed:

Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda was born into a noble Palermo family on February 10, 1834 in Capua, Sicily. He started to be a painting before entering the School of Bridges and Roads of Naples. In and in 1859 he obtained the title of engineer of bridges and roads. In 1861 he was assigned to the Office of Bridges and Roads of Palermo. He began to design buildings whose notable feature was the use of polychrome materials, including the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi. During his life designed dozens of buildings. He died on January 31, 1911.
