Pentiction Cheers the Church is affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. It is located right on Main Street in downtown
Pentiction.
"Our History
While working with a youth ministry in Hamilton, Ontario, Dennis and Joey Cyr felt God's prompting to start a church plant. Praying for direction, they felt led to Penticton, British Columbia where both Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle and the PAOC district welcomed their vision with open arms and support.
In June of 2006, Dennis and Joey packed up their families and made the move across Canada. Within one year of their arrival in Penticton, God had provided jobs and homes for them all.
There was a direction and a purpose to the new church, but it needed a name too. One that people outside of the church could relate to. During a Hamilton Tiger Cats game, the theme song from the TV show "Cheers" was played. In that moment of celebration and excitement over touchdowns and rising scores it occurred to Pastor Dennis that "Cheers" would be a great name. And thus the new church would go by the name "Cheers".
During 2007, a small group of people started meeting together for worship and fellowship. This led to some key supporters moving into the Penticton area to help out with the church.
The first official service of Cheers the Church took place on January 6th, 2008 at the Bare Bones theatre, in The Cannery. The casual atmosphere that marks Cheers was established with the use of The Can coffee shop serving as our entrance area. The church grew quickly and within 2 years we were looking for a larger space to meet in.
God directed Joey and Dennis to 639 Main Street which had previously been the site of another church. It was much larger and would facilitate more ministry opportunities during the week, giving Cheers a more permanent presence.
In April 2010, we held our first service at the new, and present, location. Since then, we have continued to grow, with many families contributing to make Cheers what it is today.
