The Pitchfork Ranch Loading Chute and Corral is on display at the Ranching Heritage Center, on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock TX.
An interpretive sign nearby reads as follows:
“PITCHFORK LOADING CHUTE AND CORRAL
Loading chutes with corral facilities became part of ranching after the trail drive era ended and cattle were shipped by train to meatpacking centers. This chute and corral were moved here from the Pitchfork Ranch in Dickens County. Reconstruction was supervised by D. Burns, longtime manager of the ranch, who claimed the corral design was “not pretty but stout and a useful tool in handling livestock.”
