Matador Office -- Ranching Heritage Center, Lubbock TX - Signs of History on Waymarking.com

The former Matador Ranch Office is on display at the Ranching Heritage Center, on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock TX.

An interpretive sign nearby reads as follows:

“MATADOR OFFICE

Nicknamed the “Scotsmen’s Dive,” this building began as the guesthouse revisiting representatives of the Scottish company that owned the Matador ranch. Forty years later, the clapboard walled house was converted to the business office for the huge ranching operation. The front room was equipped with desks and office machines used by the manager and accountant. In the center was a bedroom; the bathroom was on the west end. The building has beat board ceilings and tongue and groove wood floors area it reflects the fact that ranching was, first and foremost, a business operation."
