This treadle-powered Singer Sewing machine would sew as fast as the sewer could push the treadle back and forth with their feet. A leather cord connected to the treadle turned the wheel on the machine. It is a beautifully-ornate decorative machine, meant to be displayed with pride in a home.
The sewing machine dates from before 1910, because that is the cut-off year for the Dallas Heritage Village. Nothing that is of a newer vintage than 1910 is on display at the museum.
The machine is located inside the Shotgun House at Dallas Heritage Village.
