The church of St.Mary and All Saints' was almost entirely rebuilt in c.1846 but it retains the original north aisle and the C14th late medieval tower. The Decorated chancel is the work of Richard and James Brandon, with the south aisle by the more famous Thomas Jekyll, indulging himself in his enthusiasm for Early English.
This World War Two Memorial to the fallen of the parish is on the west wall of the porch, it was erected after the end of WWII and has been altered to include one name of a soldier killed in Korea in 1952. The memorial is alongside one commemorating the fallen of WWI.
The porch is immediately under the tower so can be dated to the C14th, one of the oldest parts of the church. The tablet is marble with a plain chamfered border about 0.6m x 0.9m in size.
It reads;
1939 1945

WHO WENT FROM THIS VILLAGE
THESE MEN GAVE THEIR LIVES
V.Rutland Dunkirk
J.Percival Salerno
J.Girdlestone P.O.W. Japan

The co-ordinates are for the south porch.
