The business was established in 1886 which is when the original Merchants & Direct sections were built by Edward Grover. Kwong Sing & Co also established in 1886 is Glen Innes' oldest surviving retail business & retains its original ownership.
The 1903 extension was a bulk store & the 1915 extension an importer.
The building is a fine example of a late Victorian Italianate general store & is in first class order. It is fully leased by a variety of businesses.
