The Grand Prior's Palace fronting the square is considered one of the finest baroque buildings in Malá Strana (Lesser Town of Prague), though it's now part of the Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta—the contemporary (and very real) descendant of the Knights of Malta. The core of the palace has Romanesque origin (XIIth century) and in its walls you can find traces of all important architectural styles from above mentioned Romanesque, through Gothic (1420-1530), Renaissance (1610) to present high-Baroque appearance (1725-1726) which was designed by architect Bartolomeo Scotti.
