Andrij HNATYSCHYN (* 1906 in Czyzykiw bei Lemberg, Galizien, † 1995 in Wien). Begann 1928 ein Studium an der Theologischen Akademie in Lemberg. Anschließend studierte er am Lysenko-Musikinstitut in Lemberg. Der damalige griechisch-katholische Metropolit von Lemberg Andrej Scheptyckyj erkannte das große musikalische Talent von Hnatyschyn und gewährte ihm 1931 ein Stipendium für ein Studium am Wiener Konservatorium. Nach Beendigung seines Musikstudiums blieb Hnatyschyn in Wien, wo er die Leitung des St. Barbara Kirchenchores übernahm und eine breit gefächerte kompositorische Tätigkeit begann. Seine Kompositionen religiöser und liturgischer Lieder gehören heute zu den Schätzen der ukrainischen Musikliteratur. Er popularisierte das ukrainische Volkslied durch zahlreiche Bearbeitungen und komponierte zwei Opern. Mit dem Kirchenchor zu St. Barbara gab er zahlreiche Konzerte im In- und Ausland, nahm über 25 Schallplatten auf und trat im Österreichischen Rundfunk und Fernsehen auf.

Andrij HNATYSCHYN (* 1906 in Czyzykiw near Lviv, Galicia, † 1995 in Vienna). He began studying at the Theological Academy in Lvov in 1928. He then studied at the Lysenko Music Institute in Lviv. The then Greek-catholic metropolitan of Lvov Andrey Sheptyckyj recognized the great musical talent of Hnatyschyn and in 1931 granted him a scholarship to study at the Vienna Conservatory. After completing his musical studies, Hnatyschyn stayed in Vienna, where he took over the management of the St. Barbara church choir and began a broad compositional activity. His compositions of religious and liturgical songs today belong to the treasures of Ukrainian music literature. He popularized the Ukrainian folk song through numerous adaptations and composed two operas. With the Church Choir at St. Barbara, he gave numerous concerts at home and abroad, recorded over 25 records and appeared on Austrian radio and television.
