"Der Fischmarkt ist heute eine baumbestandene Oase in der Altstadt.
Nach der gelungenen Stadtsanierung wurde 1982 auch der Platz – durch die Errichtung eines Brunnens – aufgewertet. Die Plastik des Stelzenfischs schuf der Landauer Künstler Stefan Forler. Sie erinnert an den Berufsstand der Fischer, der heute in der Domstadt zwar ausgestorben ist, aber hier jahrhundertelang beheimatet war.
Der Fischmarkt, als „forum piscium“ bereits 1290 erwähnt, zog sich am Speyerbach entlang. Im Spätmittelalter befand sich hier der Fisch- und Holzmarkt. Auf dem ausgedehnten Holzhof stapelten sowohl die einheimische Hasenpfühlerzunft wie auch die auswärtigen Schiffer ihr Holz.

The sculpture of the stilt fish was created by the landscape artist Stefan Forler.
