By far, Bear is one of the most magnificent sculptures in Kelowna. The area is well known for its "Art Walk" featuring sculptures from local, regional and international artists.
Since its inception, the City’s Public Art Fund has gradually been enlivening the streets and public buildings of Kelowna. Whether it’s a whimsical sculpture or a practical tree grate, today more than 60 pieces of public art enhance the aesthetic nature and charm of Kelowna.
Bear was created by talented artist, Brower Hatcher and unveiled in 2010. Bear illuminates at night and to really appreciate this great sculpture, try to visit it both during the day and at night.

Bear is a tribute to Kelowna's settlement on the
shores of Okanagan Lake.
The theme of the artwork is a grizzly bear, "Kelowna" being an English translation of an Okanagan/Sylix First Nation word for "Female Grizzly Bear".
Within bear's body are symbols that represent periods of Kelowna's history. The boat-like shape at the base is a reference to the role the lake has played in the evolution of the community and the shaping of its identity.
