Harry Jewson was a member of the Group Settlement Scheme where migrants were granted a block of land that they had to clear first, many of the trees were karri which can grow to 100feet tall. A popular method of clearing the trees was by blasting with dynamite, often as in Harry's case with fatal results , with the charge going off early or the tree falling the wrong way.
