Its mouth is extremely dangerous when the seas are large as they were when I visited. I was in the area for a reunion & took the opportunity to visit the town & the river. A runnerbout (small recreational fishing boat) entered the heads when I was there & I watched how the owner powered through allowing a wave to sit just behind his boat. Other boat owners are not so professional & Marine Rescue NSW have a station overlooking the mouth.
The Wooli Wooli River rises in the Newfoundland State Forest, descends 135 metres over its 34 kilometre course & has several fresh water lakes inland from Wooli which are the water supply for Wooli & the nearby village of Minnie Water.
You can drive almost to the mouth of the river & it is a short walk along a paved path on the breakwater to the mouth.
