Iwan Franko (* 27. August 1856 in Nahujewytschi, Galizien, Kaisertum Österreich; † 28. Mai 1916 in Lemberg, Galizien) war ukrainischer Schriftsteller, Journalist, Literaturkritiker und Übersetzer. Neben Taras Schewtschenko hatte er großen Einfluss auf die entstehende moderne ukrainische Literatur und die Entwicklung des nationalen ukrainischen Gedankens.

Das Denkmal steht in der Postgasse im ersten Bezirk, rechts neben dem Eingang der Barbarakirche. Es ist eine Metallbüste auf steinerner Rundstele (mit Inschrift "Iwan Franko; ukrainischer Schriftsteller und Philosoph, 1856-1916"), die auf einem Steinsockel steht.

Ivan Yakovych Franko (August 27 [O.S. August 15] 1856 – May 28 [O.S. May 15] 1916) was a Ukrainian poet, writer, social and literary critic, journalist, interpreter, economist, political activist, doctor of philosophy, ethnographer, the author of the first detective novels and modern poetry in the Ukrainian language.

He was a political radical, and a founder of the socialist and nationalist movement in western Ukraine. In addition to his own literary work, he also translated the works of such renowned figures as William Shakespeare, Lord Byron, Pedro Calderón de la Barca, Dante Alighieri, Victor Hugo, Adam Mickiewicz, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller into the Ukrainian language. Along with Taras Shevchenko, he has had a tremendous impact on modern literary and political thought in Ukraine.

The monument is located in the Postgasse in the first district, to the right of the entrance to the Barbara church. It is a metal bust on round stone stele (with inscription "Iwan Franko; ukrainischer Schriftsteller und Philosoph [ukrainian writer and philosopher], 1856-1916"), which stands on a stone base.
