Fort Myers Page Field was originally named Fort Myers Army Air Base and then later named Page Army Airfield. It was leased by the military from February 1942 to September 1945. With it being officially opened as an operational base on April 25, 1943.

According to the Museum of Florida History, "upwards of 225 German POWs from Camp Blanding saw duty at Page Field in early 1945. Many of these men labored digging ditches and other forms of mosquito abatement-related tasks."

Later that year the base was closed and returned to civilian use.
