The sandstone monument located in a small park just in front of St Mathew Church (kostel sv. Matouš) in village Záhornice (Central Bohemia) was erected here during 1920s. It is a work of sculptor Jaroslav Jedlicka from Vojice and it was commisioned and paid by local citizens (villages Záhornice and nearby settlement Poušt) to paid tribute their 21 fellow-citizens killed during WW I on various battlefields of the war across the Europe. Central statuary depicts a lion, Czech heraldic animal, killing heraldic animal of the Austrian empire - the eagle-she. After WW II another 7 names was engraved on the monument, the citizens who were killed during Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia and World War II (1938-1945).
