Situated across from the Legislative Assembly, Heroes Square comprises a fountain, monuments, statues and interpretative markers which tell of the heroes who have been important to the history of George Town and the Cayman Islands.

The wall of history sets out some of the chronological milestones in the development of the Cayman Islands from 1503 to 2003.

Significant dates in the Cayman Islands history:
1503 The uninhabited Sister Islands are sighted by Christopher Columbus and named Las Tortugas
1670 Spain cedes to England all the Caribbean islands England already occupies.
1834 Slaves are emancipated throughout the British Empire, including the Cayman Islands.
1920 Legislation is passed providing for free, compulsory education for all children aged 7 to 14.
1937 The Atlantis, the first cruise ship to visit Grand Cayman, brings 450 passengers to the island.
1952 The Catalina Santa Maria, owned by Owen Roberts' Caribbean International Airways, is the first airplane to land on an airstrip in the Cayman Islands.
1959 The Cayman Islands receives its first written constitution, which includes the right of women to vote and stand for public office. Cayman Brac Power and Light begins operating.
2003 The Cayman Islands acknowledge the 500th anniversary of their discovery by Christopher Colombus on 10 May 1503, and devote an entire year to exploring and celebrating the five centuries of recorded history.
