The 2nd Battalion of the Devonshire Regiment was a Regular Army unit that was serving in Malta as part of the 1st Malta Infantry Brigade at the start of World War II. They were involved in the siege of Malta from June 1940 until November 1942.
A marble plaque honors the members of the Dorsetshire Regiment who died during the siege of Malta by Italian and German troops during World War II. Within a raised arch on the plaque is inscribed:
