Built in 1887, the Italianate style McKay Block was one of many buildings constructed after a fire destroyed much of the area and which prompted a “build with brick” by-law. Donald McKay purchased the site in July of 1887, and the building was constructed at a cost of $3500.

It has been home to various businesses and currently houses the Bear Creek tea room, a restaurant (Actors) and several interesting gift shops. I’ve only seen some but an interesting feature apparently is the graffiti with names, dates, and places of origin of individuals from 1887 to the present.
