Located under a large cottonwood tree is a citizen memorial monument containing a plaque that reads:
JOSEPH SCOTT HOLLEMAN (JOE)THIS MONUMENT WAS PLACED IN MEMORY OF JOE HOLLEMAN, WHO WAS AN INSPIRATION IN THE FOUNDATION OF THE BICYCLE MOTOCROSS PROGRAM IN THIS COMMUNITY. JOE WAS BORN ON JULY 28, 1964. HE WAS VERY ACTIVE IN VARIOUS SPORTS INCLUDING A EXPERT SOCCOR PLAYER AND A CHALLENGING BMX RIDER. THIS YOUNG GENTLEMAN BORE THE REPUTATION AS A AGGRESSIVE COMPETITOR. HE HAD A SINCERE QUALITY THAT IS RARE AMONG TODAY'S YOUTH. JOE HOLLEMAN LOST HIS LIFE ON DECEMBER 23, 1982 AS A RESULT OF A TEENAGE AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT. TO SUMMARIZE JOE'S LIFE WOULD INCLUDE HIS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE TOWARD PEOPLE AND HIS CONTRIBUTION TO YREKA BICYCLE MOTOCROSS. |
After doing some research online, I couldn't obtain any additional information on Joe Holleman other than he's buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Yreka. You can visit his grave on FindaGrave.com here.
