Established in 1870 by St. Dunstan's Roman Catholic Parish, this large and old cemetery is bounded on the north by the St. John River. It is adjacent to the slightly newer Fredericton Rural Cemetery, to the east.
In the cemetery are only two zinc headstones, those of the Clinton and Hughes Families. This is the Hughes family headstone, a monument for the Reverend B.N. Hughes, his wife, Margaret and two of their sons, Douglas and George, who passed away at relatively young ages. Very similar to the zinc headstone of another Reverend we found in New Brunswick, this tall and slender headstone has an extended cornice atop the shaft and an urn atop. Drapery hangs all around the shaft above the inscription plates, while the base is inscribed "HUGHES" on two sides, "MOTHER" on one and "SON" on the final side.
