The Round Square was once the site of a fish and meat marker in Valencia. It was built by Salvador Escrig Melchor in 1840 and restored in 2012 into a small shopping plaza with craft shops and tapas bars on the ground floor level.
The original stone fountain is in the center of the plaza. A 2' high and 20' diameter circular basin has a fluted column rising from a two tiered square base. The column is topped by a plain mushroom like cap with a scalloped oval finial. On each face of the base is a bronze faun. Water pours forth from the mouths of the four fauns into the basin below.
