The use of a blue boar is usually related to the Earl of Oxford, but there is no obvious link between Thornton and Oxford.

This blue boar is standing on its back legs facing to the left. Its bright red tongue is sticking out of its mouth which also has large tusks.

A boar is a wild pig and can also be associated with hunting. Thornton is part of the Municipal Borough of Bradford which also has a boar in its coat of arms, although in that case only the boars' head is shown.

The pub is the end building of a terraced row of houses
