Great Hill Cemetery was established in the 1830s. Remaining in use to this day it has received something over 250 interments. Of these only a handful have zinc headstones.
The Wass Family Headstone has four members of the family buried around it, husband and wife Jerome and Sarah and two of their children who died at young ages. A relatively large monument, this one is quite intricate in its design, with crossed gables on the top and a pyramid roof with a square urn with lid atop. Each corner is anchored by a square Ionic column, or pilaster, with decoration around a cornice above. The heavy square base is rusticated. One of the plates indicates that Jerome Wass, the husband and father, was a Mason.
