Church Hill Cemetery is on a rise at the shore of Machias Bay, a very picturesque and pastoral location for a cemetery. As well as the zinc grave markers there are quite a number of veterans' gravesites. We were there around the Fourth of July and it was nice to see all the American Flags on the veterans' graves.
The Stuart Family Headstone is under a large and old looking tree southwest of the church, near the western edge of the southern portion on the cemetery. Buried here are Morrill and his wife Edwina, and Tryphosa, wife of J. W. Stuart and her daughter, Belle. J.W. could be a brother of Morrill, who, judging by the anchor on one of the plates, may have been a seafaring man. Their headstone is quite large and ornate, with a square urn atop, with a finial. Above the plate openings is a cornice with scalloped modillions and arched drapes below with tassels at each corner. At the bottom is a two stepped, rusticated base.
