Sömmerda is a district town of the Sömmerda district of the same name in Thuringia. The city is located about 20 kilometers north of Erfurt, is a center and location of the electrical industry (Fujitsu Technology Solutions), whose precursors were the mechanical factories of Johann Nikolaus von Dreyse. They shaped the city decisively since 1840 and ensured the growth of the former insignificant arable town to the industrial city.
