Near midday on March 21 and September 21, when days and nights are of equal duration, the sun's rays pass through the aperture in the sculpture and strike the sphere on the ground below. Accounting for the uneven elliptical course of the Earth's orbit around the sun, the inclination of the Earth's axis, and the time it takes light from the sun to reach the Earth, the actual sun's passage comes at:
