The house is a combination of a distinctive Renaissance reconstruction of two Gothic houses in the years 1586-1608. Furthermore, the house was rebuilt in the early Baroque style after 1648. The layout of the house, surviving mostly from the Renaissance reconstruction, broke intervention from the years 1927-1928.

Dum U Zlatého stromu je vzácnou stavební památkou renesancní Prahy, i když pozdejšími úpravami byl jeho ráz cástecne potlacen.
Dva gotické domy stojíci na tomto míste Dlouhé trídy byly v letech 1586-1608 zásadne prestaveny v renesancním slohu a stavebne spojeny v jeden. V první fázi této prestavby byla rešena za použití stávajících zdí hlavní budova a východní dvorní krídlo. Do prízemí i do prvního patra byly vloženy renesancní klenby s hrebínky a postupne (toto slovo je vzhledem k casovému horizontu stavební akce zcela na míste) se prikrocilo k budováni ostatních dvorních krídel. Tehdy vznikly otevrené arkády na severní a východní strane dvora, s rostlinným ornamentem ve cviklech. Arkády na západní strane dvorního traktu, již na první pohled se lišící od tech na severní a východní strane, vznikly na prelomu poloviny 17. století a jsou tedy rane barokní. Do tohoto období také odborníci kladou vytvorení trojlodní pilírové síne v patre severního krídla.
