Die Apollinariskirche wurde 1839-1842 vom Kölner Dommeister Ernst-Friedrich Zwirner im Auftrag des Grafen Egon von Fürstenberg-Stammheim an der Stelle der mittelalterlichen Martins-kirche erbaut. Die Fresken im Inneren der neugotischen Kirche stammen von Mitgliedern der Künstlergruppe der „Nazarener". Drei Bildzyklen zeigen das Leben Jesu, das Leben Mariens und die Taten des heiligen Apollinaris als Bischof von Ravenna. In der Krypta befindet sich die silberne Reliquienbüste des heiligen Apollinaris, die in jedem Jahr zur Wallfahrtszeit Ende Juli aus dem Sarkophag erhoben wird. Von der Statue des heiligen Franziskus oberhalb der Kirche genießt man einen herrlichen Blick über Remagen und das Mittelrheintal.

The neo-gothic Church „Apollinariskirche"
was built from 1839 to 1842 by Ernst-Friedrich Zwirner, the Master-Builder of Cologne Cathedral. Earl Egon von Fürstenberg-Stammheim commissioned the building an the site of the medieval „Martinskirche". The frescos inside am works created by members of the „Nazarener" Artists Association. A main feature is that in the crypt the silver relic bust of Saint Apollinaris is housed and is annually displayed during a pilgrimage at the end of July. Next to the statue of St. Francis above the car park you have a superb view over Remagen and the romantic valley of the Middle Rhine.
