"La ville est traversée pour la première fois par le chemin de fer en 1851, avec la ligne Paris Petit-Gennevilliers. Les Gennevillois profitent peu de la gare, trop éloignée du centre. Celle-ci est supprimée en 1863, quand la ligne est prolongée jusqu'à Argenteuil. Il faut attendre 1908 et l'inauguration de la ligne Paris-Ermont pour que Gennevilliers soit à nouveau desservie par le train. La gare, loin du village mais proche à l'usine à gaz, connaît un important traffic de marchandises. Les rare voyageurs sont surtout les ouvriers. Une autre halte, financée par les habitants du quartier est construite aux Grésillons. Mais le train ignore encore l'agglomération et les besoin des Gennevillois. Il faut attendre la mise en service de la ligne du RER pour que les habitants puissent pleinement utiliser le chemin de fer."
