This life-sized sculpture depicts a middle-aged man, standing, and wearing a hat, and vest. He carries his lunch pail.
A museum sign informs us:
"CHICAGO IRONWORKER
Building the fair involved thousands
of skilled and unskilled workers.
Experienced ironworkers constructed
the world's first Ferris wheel on the
Midway, but their names were not
recorded. In April 1893, shortly before
the fair opened, union ironworkers
and carpenters unsuccessfully struck
for and eight-hour workday, but gained
guaranteed minimum wages."
Sector of the workforce: Ironworkers
Created or Donated by which group: Chicago History Museum
