This life-sized sculpture of Ida B. Wells depicts her as a young woman, standing, apparently walking. She wears a long gown and cape, hat and carries a suitcase. She also holds an object..perhaps tickets in her right hand. The artist is not listed but a museum sign reads:

"IDA B. WELLS
CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST

The exclusion of African Americans
from the fair's planning committees
and exhibits prompted Wells to publish
THE REASON WHY THE COLORED AMERICAN
IS NOT IN THE WORLD'S COLOMBIAN
EXHIBITION. During the fair, Wells,
distributed 10,000 free copies of the
pamphlet which described African
American achievements despite racial
discrimination."
