Montserrat is a tribute to the famous Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey located in the mountains 30 miles west of Barcelona. The 2.25 x 1.07 x 0.60 meter bronze sculpture was created by Eusebio Arnau in 1928 and cast at Codina Hermanos foundry in Madrid.
The sculptures depicts a bearded, elderly, semi-nude man. He is seated on a chair looking slightly towards his left shoulder. His right leg is resting on a a rock in front of him. His left leg is by the side of the chair. A cloth is coming from behind and wrapped over his right thigh. In his right hand he holds a statuette of the Virgin of Montserrat above the cloth, just above his right thigh.
