The CN railway swing bridge connected downtown Montreal's Central Station to rail yards in Pointe St. Charles and destinations throughout the CN network. It crossed the Lachine Canal, an important link between the Atlantic Ocean and points further inland in Canada. This area was the industrial heart of Montreal from the late 1800's until roughly the 1950's. The canal has been converted to a recreational use with a bike path on both sides of the swing bridge.

The railway swing bridge is abandoned in the open position and not accessible. A new fixed railway bridge runs very close by. There is also an abandoned railway tunnel which can be visited at waymark WMC820 (visit link) in the same area.

The railway swing bridge can be seen 5-1/2 minutes into the short film The Railrodder starring Buster Keaton (visit link)
