This life-sized sculpture depicts Mabel Treseder sitting down on a bench. She is a young woman wearing the long dress and jacket typical of the 1890s.
The work is surrounded on either side by a sculpture of a man and woma...no doubt intended to represent her parents. A sign at the site informs us Treseder was a tourist from Wisconsin who visited the World's Fair in Chicago with her family. "She was dazzled by its beauty, but horrified by the misery of Chicago's poor and exhausted by the city'snoise and dirt."

Google has a page (visit link) featuring the book she wrote about her experiences: "A Visitor's Trip to Chicago in 1893".
