Étienne Desmarteau (Boucherville, Quebec, February 4, 1873 - Montreal, October 29, 1905, 32 y.o.) was a Canadian athlete from the province of Quebec. He won Gold at the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis (USA) in Weight throwing (56 pounds). He was inducted in Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1949 and in Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1955 (Source : translation from French)
Ironically, he also excelled at Hammer (marteau in French) throwing. The commemorative plaque located on the second floor of the Center mentions that this is the sports event where he won his gold medal (picture included).
