The originality of the clock, erected above the central vault, resides in its im- plantation in relation to the gable of the arch.
Positioned in advance, it is lodged between its base, formed by an original vault key at the top of the vault and its cover, formed by an advance of the roof in the so-called "jay ass form.
This principle of crushed roof had the effect of softening the point of the pinion. It was used much at the time in domestic architecture.
The elegance thus gained by this atypical form broke with the traditional architecture.
[FR] L’horloge de la grande arche, élément central de l'architecture du marché couvert.
L'originalité de l'horloge, érigée au dessus de la voûte centrale, réside dans son im- plantation par rapport au pignon de l’arche.
Positionnée en avancée, elle se loge entre sa base, formée par une clé de voute originale au sommet de la voûte et sa couverture, formée par une avancée de la toiture en forme dite de « cul de geai ».
Ce principe de toiture écrasée avait pour effet d'adoucir la pointe du pignon. On l'utilisait beaucoup à l’époque dans l’architecture domestique.
L’élégance ainsi gagnée par cette forme atypique rompait avec l’architecture traditionnelle.
