The commune of Le Marin is one of the oldest inhabited sites of Martinique. In 1664, during the first enumeration of the island ordered by Colbert, it appeared under the name of "Cul-de-sac of Saint-Étienne du Marin" with 199 inhabitants.
In 1673, the English burned the chapel and the village, ravaging the plantations and the flocks.
In 1974, the difficulties of the agricultural world caused the disappearance of the cane activity and the closure of the factory. Nowadays, the economy of the Marin is largely turned towards tourism and more particularly to the pleasure boat thanks to its marina of more than 700 places.

La commune du Marin est l’un des plus anciens sites habités de la Martinique. En 1664, lors du premier dénombrement de l’île ordonné par Colbert, elle figurait sous le nom de « Cul-de-sac de Saint-Étienne du Marin » avec 199 habitants.
En 1673, les anglais brûlèrent la chapelle et le bourg, ravageant les plantations et les troupeaux.
En 1974, les difficultés du monde agricole provoque la disparition de l’activité cannière et la fermeture de l'usine. De nos jours, l’économie du Marin est largement tournée vers le tourisme et plus particulièrement vers la plaisance grâce à sa marina de plus de 700 places.
