Harold Park was opened in 1885 to commemorate Harold Gathorne Hardy. He died at the young age of 32 and he and his family had connections with a large iron works nearby.

The family donated the land to form the park which is now run by Bradford Council.

The lake in the park is unusually deep for a town public park because it is at the sire of a former quarry.

The variety of environments in the lake attract a number of different species of birds and this sign has information about all the ones that have been spotted at the lake.
