Das Weiße Haus wurde 1897 durch den Zeitungsverleger und königlich-württembergischen Konsul Paul (1855-1937) Herfurth als Herrenhaus errichtet. Die neoklassizistische Villa hat das 1765/65 im Versailler Schlosspark errichtete „Petit Trianon“ [Petit Trianon: (
visit link) ] zum architektonischen Vorbild. Architekt war Gustav Hempel. Um das Haus wurde ein Landschaftsgarten im englischen Stil angelegt, der bis heute besteht.
Bis zum Tod von Paul Herfurth diente die Villa mit dem umliegenden Park als Sommersitz der Familie. Seine Witwe wohnt bis zur Enteignung im Jahr 1945 in der Villa. Zugleich war das Haus bis zum zweiten Weltkrieg ein Treffpunkt des Leipziger Kulturlebens. Seit 1946 ist das Haus eng mit der „agra“ – der größten Landwirtschaftsausstellung in der DDR – verbunden. Bis 1981 waren im Haus die Büroräume der Ausstellung untergebracht. Seit 1996 ist das Weiße Haus im Besitz der Stadt Markkleeberg. Heute bietet die Villa Raum für Konzerte, Hochzeiten, Empfänge und Feiern. Der Park ist öffentlich zugänglich.

The White House was built in 1897 by the newspaper publisher and Royal Consul Paul Herfurth (1855-1937) as a manor house. The neoclassical villa has the "Petit Trianon" [Petit Trianon: (
visit link) ] - erected in the Versailles Schlosspark in 1765/65 - as an architectural example. The architect was Gustav Hempel. Around the house is a landscaped garden in the english style, which still exists today.
Until the death of Paul Herfurth, the villa and the surrounding park served as summer residence for the family. His widow lives in the villa until the dispossession in 1945. At the same time, until the second World War, the building was a meeting place for Leipzig's cultural life. Since 1946 the house has been closely connected to the "agra" - the largest agricultural exhibition in the GDR. Until 1981 the office of the “agra” was placed in the house. Since 1996 the White House is owned by the city of Markkleeberg. Today the villa offers space for concerts, weddings and celebrations. The park is open to the public.
