This war memorial stands in a small memorial garden on the side of a hill at the junction of Rochdale Road and Oldham Road. The entrance to the garden is at the upper level off Rochdale Road.

The memorial is mad of stone in the following style.
Figure of rifleman surmounts square-set stone plinth. Plinth bears names and inscription in incised black lettering. There is a stepped stone base.

AND IN
PROUD MEMORY
OF THOSE WHOSE NAMES
ARE INSCRIBED HEREON
1914-1919
at the base of the memorial
THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE
Inbetween the main inscription text and the date ther is a bronze plaque that was added after the Second World War with the names of men who died in that war and the phrase For Peace and Freedom.
The rifleman is clothed in World War I battledress and stands with a with a rifle in his hands with an attached bayonet. The bayonet and rfile barrel were replaced in 2004.
