Big Bend's newest and most exciting exhibit in 50 years opened on 14 Jan 2017. The Fossil Discovery Exhibit at Big Bend National Park in Texas will be one of the star attractions for anyone who loves dinosaurs, and their families.
This playground and its associated shaded picnic area will be a draw not just for families with little kids, but anyone who just wants to munch on lunch in a bit of shade. Pit toilets are also available, but there are no water fountains in this desert environment.
The kinds of play equipment provided had to be tailored for a harsh desert environment. The equipment also had to be designed in a way that that no venomous creatures might find the playground equipment appealing for a home. That's why there aren't the usual metal slides (which would get dangerously hot), large play structures (lots of places for black widows to hide on or rattlesnakes to hide under), and etc.
Big Bend National park is pretty vast, so the nearest entrance is at Persimmon Gap.
